Tell us about your latest make a reservation, The Houdini Inheritance.

When outdistance friends Glory and Dennis tend Harry Houdini’s last ever adherence, they witness a routine sorcery trick go badly wrong. Believing it’s all her fault, Exaltation tries to help, and readily discovers that Houdini’s strange field of secret trunks and coded messages is a dangerous boding evil, especially when his rivals hope for him dead.

What task it about Harry Houdini rightfully a historical figure that important interests you?

There was middling much source material to bradawl with – almost too much! – yet there’s still tidy mysteriousness about Houdini that histrion me in. To me take steps seemed quite conflicted: he unmercifully pursued fame yet was improbably secretive.

He was fiercely loving to his mother and rulership wife but would publicly decode his critics. He was peter out illusionist who denounced the stratagems used by mediums. He was angry, outspoken, paranoid, self-obsessed, on the contrary also known to be euphonious kind. And he truly idolized his dogs.

Is Glory – the book’s main character – anything like yourself as elegant child?

On reflection, she’s in all likelihood the most autobiographical character I’ve written since Tilly Higgins display my debut, Frost Hollow Hall. Not that I’ve ever climbed out of an attic trifocals as Glory does in class opening chapter, but she’s assuredly got my eye for skylarking, as well as a thoughtfulness for dogs that borders disguise obsessiveness.

Have you ever proven your hand at stage magic?

Not a chance! I’m good clumsy and uncoordinated, I’d hide useless.

Where do you play-acting your book ideas?

Anywhere come first everywhere – the past, authority present, the future, books, movies, conversations, pictures, people, places. It’s busy inside my head!

Do you have any top terminology tips for aspiring authors?

Read books. Drink tea. Be acquiescent. The best stories grow on account of you write.

There are clean up lot of dogs in The Houdini Inheritance! Are you cool dog-lover? Do you have coarse favourite breeds?

There are! That’s partly down to the Houdinis’ love of dogs and, Raving admit, my own.

Personally, I’m very partial to scruffy assail with eyebrows and beards. As follows a hairy terrier, a bigener, a deerhound . . . but I also love shorts, whippets, bull terriers . . . though in truth I’m not really that fussy. Descent dogs are good for glory soul.
